Camping at McGee campground. If you hang a right at Benton Crossing road right at the airport it’s about 15 miles to Owens gorge rd which is the top of a little summit above crowley. Pretty awesome ride with literally no cars.Holy shit! Where did you ride from???
Right? The guy is literally full of knowledge and everything is extremely well written and enjoyable to read.No…. I hope not. Learned a lot from that guy. But I get it.
Ya but at some point you just sayHis new name is SkinnyTireAH
I think he’s a guy like myself that can do nothing but laugh at the ignorance shown by some on here.

For some reason the elevation doesn’t bother me at all. Never hasThat's pretty f'n impressive. For those that don't know, that's far from sea level up there!!
I get wore out riding my quads up there. A mountain bike, no f'n way!!!
Are you up there right now?
For some reason the elevation doesn’t bother me at all. Never has. Maybe because I’ve trained my whole life idk.
Yeah we are camping here now and staying until Sunday. Doing a 100 mile race up here this Saturday for fun and just came up early to spend some quality family time escaping the heat.
Being tougher than your nagging wife doesn’t mean that one day you don’t just walk out the door….Lol
He hunts lions in Africa and wrestles giant catfish in the Amazon…he can ride 100 miles without raising his cardio.
I think he’s a little bit tougher than that!
Edit: I forgot to mention the firefight with armed poachers.
Hopefully my post wasn’t a part of that. You know you guys ran off nganga right.. I hope this lame ass thread was worth it
The Double Eagle in the June lake loop right? My wife and I almost got married there. Our first time camping together was at Silver. We love it here.Go have lunch at The Double Eagle Inn. Try and get seated by the back windows.
Enjoy!
Altitude always kicked my ass. Back in my HS days and early 20s, I used to race downhill, and would ride everyday after water polo practice. I'd meet my chemistry teacher at the King Harbor sign at 3:30 and we'd ride up around PV every day (on knobbies, we weren't skinny tire assholes)....usually 25-30 miles, starting in Manhattan. In the winter, we'd have our lights on for the second half of the ride. Also lived and raced for the mammoth mountain ski team from 92-96, and my mom was a ski instructor up there. I brought the bike up in early spring...had my gear bag and bike all loaded in my buddy's truck the night before, he came and picked me up at 6:30 or so the next morning and we headed down towards Tom's Place. He new some trail that he said was a lot of fun. We got the trail head and my camelback leaked all over everything...my clothes were frozen. Finally got 'em on and all I remember after that is wanting to die for the next 4 hours. I was so beat when we got to the top of whereeverthehell we were that I just limped it all the way back down to the truck. I need a good 3 days to adjust. That's pretty f'n impressive. For those that don't know, that's far from sea level up there!!

He was posting in other threads, so I don't think anyone "Ran him off." He changed his screen name, but that was his doing. I actually like his OG name the best, but to each his own. As stated by others, he is a wealth of knowledge and has "Been there, done that" in just about every aspect of life. The man is a legend. Not from what I heard.. I guess time will tell.
Thank you for the post and it's nice to hear some folks like yourself, DO try to do your best to follow the rules of the road. Believe me, you are a rare breed. In my original post, I wasn't discussing the actual riding portion of cycling. I was talking about the attitude and sheer rudeness of the pricks, leaning over their handlebars in the center of a small parking lot, waiting on their buddies to arrive.I rode around 125miles between yesterday and today. I stay to the right as far as it is safe. Most people give me a full lane and I give them a wave. I'm very considerate and for the most part other drivers are. I do see plenty of cyclist that have no regard for anyone, but the same with people in the market, on the freeway and in line at the post office. Assholes everywhere.
Im going to be 50 next year and and have ridden either competitively or pretty seriously most of my life. I have also been driving since I was 16 and lived where there are lots of cyclists. I seriously can't remember one time a single rider or even a large group has ever made me late for anything. If I saw a bunch in a parking lot standing in a spot I'd find another place to park; who fucking gives a shit? They probably all met up there and spent a few hundred bucks at the coffee joint. If they were all driving there wouldn't be one spot for a half a mile. Ever thought of that?
Not sure where all you guys live that a person on a bicycle is seriously blocking the road for more than a moment where you cant get around them safely. I have lived in LA, SLO, Vegas, Reno and more and not once in my life has a group of cyclists made me late.
This place is just so full of a bunch of complainers. Do you guys come on here every day too and cry about someone doing 64 in the fast lane or someone with an EZ up in the channel and no boat? Ah nevermind, stupid question. Hahaha
Im more fit than 99.9% of the people my age and probably those that are 20 years younger. I have a resting heartrate of under 40bpm, Im lean, Im happy and love to just be outdoors on my bike. Maybe some of you babies should get out and do some hard core exercise to clean out your mind; because the toxicity in here is just mind blowing. Plus I have seen a lot of the members on here and a bike ride or even a God damn walk would do some of you porkers some good.
Remember that you jerkwads talking about hitting a cyclist with your mirror is someone's son, daughter, father, sister, mother. We lost a local cyclist who was the nicest guy you could ever meet to some asshole who did just that.
I know why there is so much road rage, fights in parking lots and stores and with neighbors and on and on.The amount of hate and no patience any more is just insane to me.
When I lived Vegas before I actually worked with a few famous UFC fighters by taking them on rides. Many of their trainers loved them to be on the bike for quick weight loss so they came to me and I did that for about a year with eight or so really famous fighters. So be careful who you try and run off the road.
There is a reason all the best MX riders, super bike racers, F1 drivers and more use cycling, because there is not tougher sport in terms of endurance and slow twitch muscle group build.
And for MTBers. All the best MTBers ride the road to train. Even the DH guys ride road to keep fit. There has not been one XC mtb world champion in the past 25 years that didnt spend as much time on the road as they do on the dirt. The current XC world champ is a road racer much of the year on one of the biggest teams in the world Ineos/ Grenadiers when he isn't winning on the mountain bike.
The amount of hate and misinformation on here sometimes just makes me shake my head.

They see vehicles pulling in to the lot, and did not even make an attempt to move over, make some space or wave as if saying "I'm sorry" or "Excuse us." These guys, (Douchebags), made it VERY apparent that everyone else either had to drive around them, or wait for them to move, in order to park. That was the frustrating part and the reason for the thread in the first place.
One of these days, when I don't have a million other things to do, I will return to this exact location and show you what I was talking about in the original post.
In the meantime, stay safe and thank you for being an aware and considerate cyclist.![]()
Your right there everywhere ! Including the people who think everybody wants there dog around them . Bicyclist who take over the road . People in sxs that run over a city to a point they no longer want them there . All of us need to settle down and show respect to everybody else. We have turned into children who have grown older and forgot the ass whopin from allowed to be seen but not heard .Man, I get it. I just think and feel it is just the overall trend for America as a whole. Nobody gives a shit about anyone else. Kindness, personal responsibility, and family values are out the window.
This week it may be a bunch of cyclist that is not courtious, next week its some asshole with their minature pony service animal on the Southwest flight or the dickwad that door dings your car and doesn't leave a note. They are everywhere.

Since you mentioned it, this "Lame ass thread" (As you referred to it), was viewed by several folks and it illicited comments from many who agreed. Posts ranging from "Roaling coal" to running people off the road. Neither of those topics were mentioned in the original posting, so you can't blame those comments on me.
RD, if you go back and read the original post, you'll see where I said I ride and have ridden...a lot. The point that I was trying to make is you can ride all you want, but you don't have to be an entitled, arrogant fucking prick about it.
Stop being a douchebag as a rider, and people will change their opinions of you. Myself included.
@Skinny Tire AH
Check in so RD doesn't think we pushed you over the brink.![]()
There are somethings that aren’t being addressed here.. when the Ukraine war started the very first comical meme that I saw on the internet showed a bicycle in front of a tank. The caption was “Even in the middle of a fucking war they think they own the road.”
This isn’t an rdp thing.. this is a general public thing and it’s global. It has nothing to do with with being in shape or out of shape.
It has to do with an absolute arrogance that runs rampant across the road cyclist community that covers every facet of the game.. from moral superiority, to blocking an entire lanes with a pod and absolutely not giving a shit who they inconvenience while they do it.
The cyclists on here have made some pretty damning comments about my community.. I’d ask them why are they universally hated? Not just on here? That isn’t an rdp thing that’s something they are doing as a whole.
A slice of humble pie and look in the mirror at actions and reactions would be a good start. What actions are creating such animosity that would make reasonable people make such ridiculous comments?
Signed River”porker”Dave
I grew up in Bishop riding my steel road bike up every climb there! Amazing riding.Camping at McGee campground. If you hang a right at Benton Crossing road right at the airport it’s about 15 miles to Owens gorge rd which is the top of a little summit above crowley. Pretty awesome ride with literally no cars.
I will pass the same peloton assholes tomorrow on my route to the freeway. 55 mph road and yes I will need to move left. Happens every Monday. 100% chance I will again yell with my windows up, fucking idiots, whey ride 4 wide? Deathwish.
You see the memes you want to see Dave. I doubt you follow Alysa Milano on Twitter or have a bunch of conservative hating, commie, pro -AOC, memes coming up on your IG feed. You see what you want to see and you are surrounded by things you believe. That is a terrible example of what you believe everyone sees.
Once again, you, like many complaining about a problem that doesn't seem to exist or at least be much of a problem for most people. When in reality, people are losing their shit over something so dumb. When was the last time a cyclist ran a red light and caused harm to you or a family member or made you late to getting your pontoon to the launch ramp? Seriously, people can hate some of them for maybe not being courtious on the road, or blocking a parking spot at your favorite store, I get it! But you seem to have this same animosity and I doubt once in your life you or anyone you know has been inconvenienced by a cyclist where it affected your day so much it would cause you stress out or made you lose your fricken mind. You stated you don't even have road cyclist in Havasu, yet you seem to have the same animosity as some of the people on here that may deal with them more so. That doesn't make sense to me.
I never said it had anything to do with being in shape or out of shape. If you re-read my post, I noted that maybe some of the overweight folks that don't give a shit about their body or running a cyclist off the road might want to consider taking up a sport that helps not only their figure but their mind. Argue all you want, but I have definitely seen a trend that many who hate cyclist are not in the best of shape; sorry, but it's the truth. I never directed it towards any one person. Your signature in your post leads me to believe you may have taken it to heart. Sorry about that.
My main point is, I just don't see a reason for anyone to be so upset about something so fricken dumb. Being pissed about stupid shit seems to really becoming a trend on this site.
And one last thing. I definitely don't think I have moral superiority by riding bikes. However, I do have low blood pressure, lower weight and I don't get so pissed off about stupid things because of cycling.
I don’t have an animosity towards cyclists.. if you read my other post in this thread I think I have made that clear. I don’t have to deal with it because it isn’t a thing where I live.
I posed the question “what are the cyclists doing to create such hatred towards them?”
I think the cyclists need to look in the mirror to figure that out. I doubt they will though..
My porker sig was a joke lol
Many cyclists are dick heads. They look in the mirrior but are blind to being entitled assholes. Like I have stated numerous times; I just don't get why people are losing their shit over them riding three wide when in reality it really doesn't affect them whatsoever in their life...ever. Same people that sweat the petty things, have road rage and everything in life is other people's faults.
Not once in my life has a cyclist or group of cyclist ever ruined my day by taking up the road or not quite stopping at a light or stop sign. The only thing that has ever bugged me about any cyclist is their political leanings. So I tend to ride more on my own or with like minded folks.
Do not worry about running off Steve. This place was a relaxing diversion for him. First off check out what nganda has accomplished in life, totally self made. The members that relate to him seldom post any longer or seldom post. Several years ago I called Steve regarding Hydraulics, the man would have talked all evening. Steve never talks or brags about business, just the things he enjoys that working his ass off his entire adult life has provided. His commitment to family could fill a book. You know you guys ran off nganga right.. I hope this lame ass thread was worth it
Beautiful country! I wish I could spend more time up there.I grew up in Bishop riding my steel road bike up every climb there! Amazing riding.
Well, since we've taken this thread out of the parking lot and out on the road, I'll add my .02.
I've already stated that some cyclists are considerate, while the majority are not. The majority are arrogant fucking pricks who think the rules of the road do not apply to them. These comments are not directed at the riders on this board, so please don't think I'm saying something with the intention of "Running people off the forums."
Bicycles. Let's start at the beginning. Here in Commiefornia, it has been defined in the California Vehicle Code that a bicycle is a vehicle and it is required that the operator of said bicycle ride in a manner consistent with the rules of the road. That means you're required to follow the rules of the road on your bicycle, the same way you would if driving a car. That seems pretty cut and dry to me.
The first topic I'll touch on is traffic signal and stop sign controlled intersections. Just because you are riding your bicycle, it does not give you the right to blast through intersections forcing pedestrians and others in vehicles, to stop and wait for you. You are required by law to stop when the light turns red or if there is a stop sign present. Period, plain and simple. I don't care if you're by yourself. I don't care if you're riding on the far right hand side of the road. I don't care if you're riding in your Saturday morning "Peleton" with 300 of your friends. IDGAF. Stop at the fucking red light or stop sign.
"We are just trying to stay together and get our miles in." Nobody cares.
"But we'll get left behind if this happens, and we'll fall behind the main pack." Afraid of getting lost? Carry a compass. Again, nobody cares.
"Well, there weren't any cars approaching." The law doesn't state that it's OK to blow through the intersection if there are no vehicles present. So stop at the red lights.
For example, imagine the shock on the cyclist's face if I drove my old Dodge dually in the same fashion you ride your bikes. Say I didn't want to slow down, to lose the momentum I had, because of the red light. So instead of stopping, I blast through the intersection the same way these asshole cyclists do, and run a few folks over. As big and heavy as that truck is, I doubt I'd even feel much of an impact. If I were to do something like that, the skinny tire mafia would lynch me from the nearest tree if I injured one of their fragile friends.
Now obviously I'm not advocating for doing such a thing, but imagine the shock if something like that happened.
This isn't a topic about whether or not I'm fat, out of shape or have a low resting heart rate. It doesn't matter if I live in a condominium in a congested city or on a farm along a rural road. It doesn't matter if I'm a liberal driving an electric car or a redneck roaling coal towing a trailer full of equipment. This is about following the rules of the road even if you're riding a bicycle.
I get what you are saying. I hate asshole cyclist as much as the next guy and I hate jerks in general, whether they are driving a diesel truck or a bicycle. Jerks are jerks.
I guess in general, I just feel people are just really upset about such minor stuff. If a group of dickhead cyclist are taking up the road does it really affect anyone? No, because nobody on here has ever been late because of a cyclist. If some dumbass cyclist decides to run a light and get wacked does that affect me? From the looks of it, most of the people on here would love to see that happen. Run a light, you deserve what you get. Run a light in a big truck and you might kill someone. Completely different things. Shoot someone with a water cannon in the Channel, it may ruin someones electronics, leave your cart alone in a lot and the wind could pick it up and run it in to a nice car. In general, all those other things that are always talked about on here have consequences. Cyclist in a parking lot or on the road; rarely if never.
You're right. Running stop signs and taking more than your share of the road isn't right. But I see more drivers in cars everyday breaking laws that could actually kill someone. I think many are really making a problem where one really doesn't exist; or at least exist at the level they think it does.
I'm done here. Most time I have spent on RDP in a long time and not really the time I want to spend. Maybe Ill go hit up @Nganga/ @Skinny Tire AH for a ride.
Have a great week everyone and be safe out there.
How about those asshole skateboarders?? lol
