This is a long one lo excuse my grammar.
Start from the beginning. We have 3 daughters and they like me have been raised on going to the river. Started with the Hondo flatty. Me the wife and the youngest. Most fun and exciting boat I even had. As our family grew it was obvious to everyone besides me that hotrod boat was not going to work anymore. Finally I agreed and we moved to 21 v bottom open bow 207 Eliminator. This boat was great for the family and the wife loved it. I think it’s still here favorite. Eventually I got bored and wanted to get something more exciting again so we started looking at deck boats and settled on the fundeck. We would both win. I got decent powered, loud, supercharged “performance “ in a family boat. We have ran it for almost a decade now and the kids are grown. I have been tired of looking around people to drive this thing and being responsible for average 10 people in the boat all the time. I started looking for my next boat.
My two younger girls still live with us and have the horsepower gene like me. Wife and oldest not so much
I wanted to down size some and get back to a closed deck with some power. We have been happy with the past two eliminators and I really like the look of the LP Daytonas. Love the speedster but way above my pay grade. lol anyway started doing my research and learning about them. What to look for and what not. @Boat 405 helped me out a lot. Looked at quite a few over the last year and a half. Tried to buy one last fall but the guy just kept giving us the run around so we bailed. This spring my daughter sends me a marketplace add for one. I’m like that badass but it’s in Michigan!!! No way I’m going to Michigan for a boat

I basically shrug it off but these girls press me and I call the guy. Turns out he’s a boat mechanic and owns a shop in Michigan and Florida. This is hood personal boat and seems to know his shit. Seems honest and truthful. Not the pics online looked like shit. He kept telling me you got to see it in person. Figured he’s just trying to make a sell. I bite and the wife and decide to make a little weekend trip and fly out to see it. If nothing else we got to go on an adventure.
We fly out and rent a car. He tends us to meet him at his shop. The whole time I’m telling myself I’m not buying this thing it’s going to ugly. Kept taking myself out of it. We see standing out front and he pulls this thing out into the sun and boom it’s so clean and bright and crazy. We check it out and are amazed how clean it is. I asked if we could hear it run and he was like better yet let’s go for a ride. He says get in my truck. We drive 15 minutes and launch it. Took me out for a fun little rip and I was sold. Fuck!!!! Now I have to drive across the country.
We fly home. Decide a plan to spur of the moment drive cross country trip. We took a Friday and Monday off figuring that would be good. Got my nephew to go with us so the three of us would just drive straight through talking turns “Sleeping “ . Things always sound better in your head than they really are. Basically 4 days of the three adults living in a suburban
I think I slept mine 9 total hours in the 96 hours it took. Drive there was smooth basically. Get there and he’s got it completely ready to go. Serviced ask the bearings, put new tires on the trailer. I didn’t ask him to do any of this. We do some appt and hot the road home. It rains on us almost the whole way home. The seller kept checking o on us to make sure we were good which we were until Arizona.
This is where it went south. We stopped for dinner Sunday night in New Mexico just east of AZ border. We were contemplating stopping to sleep somewhere or just get it done and home. We all decided we want to be home so let’s go. Get back in and head out excited and full of new energy to drive. We cross into AZ and are like hell yeah then boom suburban says “fuck you I’m done”
something let go in the engine. Thinking we got bit by the active fuel management lifter issue. She dropped a cylinder and was making some noise. Limped her to an off ramp and stopped. Now what, what the do we do. It’s 11pm Sunday night. Call AAA they say they will be there in an hour. Call my dad who lives in AZ he hits the road to come get the boat. Nothing we can do but wait. Dad gets there and we get the boat moved over to his truck. AAA still not there so wife calls and now they say they won’t be there for at least 7 hours
I call a buddy that has a heavy duty flat bed my brother in law already offered to come help so he picked up the trailer and drove out to get the suburban. 6am Monday morning we were moving again. Dads truck is old and lots of miles so I didn’t want to hurt it. Called another buddy and he drove out to AZ to meet me at my dads and pick me and the new boat up while the wife and nephew went home with her brother and broken sub. We all get back to our house around 4pm Monday. Finally!!!!
