I know the boards are all over the place when it comes to going to Mexico, but anyone got any pros or cons of getting some work there, specifically crowns for implants?

GF got an implant for a crown that failed, not sure why it failed but Dentist basically said hes not responsible for anything. Glad it was not a more serious result. There is no recourse if anything goes wrong including death. Lots of people have success, but I'm going to spend my money in the US of A.

I've heard pros and cons. I want to say someone here had a good "go-to" office in Algodones. Hopefully they'll chime in.

I’ve known many people to have dental work in Mex.
Much more good to say than bad.
Coming from a guy that thinks... View attachment 1505539
One of my more "sketchy" friends years back went to urgent care in Anaheim. They said his pain was appendicitis. His brother in law was a surgeon in Mexico City...the flight sucked, but was cheaper than surgery here

His response to "How was it?" :
"Kinda like the vet's office."
🤣

He lived, so must not have been too bad?

… A relatively big money friend of mine and his pretty much younger wife…drive all the way down from Reno to get their dental work done somewhere in Mexico… They have been doing it for decades with no complaints🤷🏽‍♀️… I think to them it is kind of a travel adventure…

Friend of ours had some dental implants done. Was much cheaper in Mexico which was the draw for her. She did her homework in terms of good dentists. Long story short, all implsnts failed and the dentist told her good luck coming after me.

Im in the field, I have seen good work and I have seen bad work from Mexico. But I have seen some sketchy craftsmanship and we have fixed a lot of dental work that was not done properly, including super glue in a dental implant that almost caused failure. Have seen patients spend double what it wouldve cost in the states to fix the work they had done in another country. I'm not saying all dental work in Mexico is bad, but Id be cautious. Thats my 2 cents. Part of the issue imo, is knowing a patient wont come back if problems arise. Doesnt mean every dentist in Mexico is bad by any means.

… I get my dental work done in Panorama City California… The dental office looks like it’s on a back street in Tijuana… my really good. dentist worked out of there for a while till he had to have some major surgery… Now he is retired…. This little office is now owned by a Filipino lady who in the Philippines was a dentist… But she is not here… she has hired a male dentist and a female dentist… the male is great… he has a Hispanic name… The female not so much… I had a bunch of bridge work done so that I could have a smile… had a lot of problems with it at first, but lately everything seems to be going OK… I always take a handful of whatever I can find it in my medicine cabinet before I let them do any drilling and grinding… So what did I do when this bridgework started… I hit on the female dentist… kind of🤷🏽‍♀️… she’s about 40 and pretty good looking…then on the next visit, the chick who owns the dental office sort of hit on me… when my meds wore off… I thought to myself… Close call😳… twice…
… This little office is really clean and has a certain Third World charm about it…🤷🏽‍♀️

I have had implants done there {Los Algodones} and no issues so far. When I was there I met a group that was from TN and they said that they come twice a year for meds and dental work and have been doing it for years.

The town only survives if they do good work. 243 offices within walking distance from the border.

I saw plates in the parking area from all over.

Friend is a dentist and goes to Mexico to help out and do work a few times a year. He says it’s not so bad just be as picky as you would be state side.

We had a member here that showed pics of his wifes perfect smile that had all been done in Mexico with great success.
Cant recall who that was offhand, might have been Boats&trains🤷‍♂️
.
My B-I-L had some of his teeth fixed in Algodones too. Opted not to use his wifes relative dentist in Vegas.

Have a very good friend that lives in Bullhead City from there and her uncle owns a very nice dental office, she takes all her American friends down there and I have never heard a negative thing about his office, personally I rather spend a few extra bucks and have a dentist a few miles away from home so I doubt I would ever go down there, but if money was tight I would see nothing wrong with going down there to someone with a great rep.

I know a guy that went down there to get some work done.

Older messican dude. Spoke the language as well.

He ended up having to pay to have it all redone here.

That's all I know about the subject.

There are some American dentists that have offices there as well. The work a couple days a week and keep the cash off the books. Low overhead, no insurance costs.
Be interesting to know who those are?

There's a lady here in Parker who gives rides down there, apparently very little to no waiting to cross the border. The way she puts it, sounds like she may have one specific dentist so maybe they supplement her driving income.

Our canadian neighbors all go to Algodones for various things.
One was eyeglasses. Very cheap there.
One went for dental work and had to go back for an infection.
I just finished up with an implant here in Havasu. The tooth wasn't perfect after 6 months so they got me another one no charge.
Mrs EZ just had the post put in the other day and waiting for the tooth. That visit alone was $2000.
Not sure I want to spend my time driving all the way to mexico to save a few bucks.
Most people don't even want to party there let alone someone sticking a needle in my mouth.

Curious how long it takes for an implant in mexico. Here it takes almost a year by the time they put in the cadaver bone and wait for it to set.

Same with prescription drugs. People would bring their bottle to the pharmacy and ask Mrs EZ what's in there. She said she doesn't read spanish lol.
Not sure I want to put their pills in my mouth either.

When it comes to saving money in life, putting my health on the line is aways my go-to place to start.
Yea i agree, but gluing on a tooth to a stud isn't exactly a heart surgeon work.

That's the final stage.
First is removal of old tooth.
Then the first stage is inserting the cadaver bone into the jawbone and making sure it accepts that bonding before putting on the post.
There's a lot of cutting and sewing and xrays along the way.
Not sure how much money is being saved here but it's not an EZ process and I sure wouldn't want to be driving 3 hours after each visit.

I have had a couple implants here in the states they ran about 3500 and 4k for the last one.But like mentioned the whole process took just about a year.tooth pulled bone implant or whatever its called,Let it heal for a 3-4 months then go in they do the implant screw wait another 4-5 months then go back and they start the tooth crown part then go back get that installed.

I though about the algodones dentist but then after travel and time it was just easier to do locally.figure 3 trips from phx place to stay all adds up.

yep, Havasu to Yuma alone is 150 miles. Figure in at least 3 round trips with gas and time and wear and tear on your vehicle.
Never crossed the border there so not sure what all is entailed there.

Happy ending dentistry?
… I thought it might be going towards a happy ending with the female dentist… As when she was done working on me, she invited me to come sit in the office with her… But the chick that owns the facility would have none of that… She had a meeting somewhere and basically threw me out of the dental office… Because she could see what might happen???… one of those things that I will never know…

My wife had 6 veneers done in Cabo 5 or 6 years ago and she couldn't be happier. If I remember correctly it was about $4500 versus over $20k in the States. The dentist, office, and his smoking hot assistants were phenomenal.

I had all my teeth removed and put implants in Tijuana. The place I went to is Pacific Denta. It was the cleanest dental office I have ever gone too. I swear I take all my friends there they are so nice and not pushy very cheap

The reason most have dental issues with Mexico or any other place is because your mouth is jacked up. Lol.

If you need a bone implanted you got allot more issues going on that just needing a new tooth. I had a family member pay 50k for a whole new set of teeth had all kinds
problems. He had gum issues , bone decay etc

I had an implant done here in the US, pretty straight forward took about 4-6 months with stud thing implant and new tooth. Not bone cadaver or antibiotics needed.

If you have bad gums, bone decay etc you might have problems anywhere you go.

Yea i don't have any off that, just a few 25-35 year old root canals and crowns that are about at the end of their shelf life, one of them happen to be part of a bridge, so no more bridge only option is a implant, when you have a bridge for 30 years you do loose bone were there wasn't a tooth under bridge, being a upper molar is very close to sinus cavity and can even go into if dentist don't know their shit.

Not going to say you can't get good work done there.
Most people do need bone grafts for best results, and it has nothing to do with having let thing deteriorate. Some people have big jaw bones that don't require bone grafts, but a lot do, and in the states with a bone graft the process is close to a year.

Went in at 10:00 am and we are now at Quechuan casino at noon

I didn’t take a lot of pics.. but long story short my mom lost a tooth. We came down here 3 months ago and they said the one next to it is gonna go at some point, so they pulled it and she did two implants.

Today they inserted the posts the implants go on, and tomorrow we will get them installed..

Anyhow it’s a pretty drama free experience all in all.

I got another pair of prescription glasses while I was down here. I exam, designer frames, progressives, transitions with the blue. Locker yadda yadda yadda.. 280 bucks

I coulda waited another 30 minutes and grabbed them same day but we r coming back tomorrow anyways so I’ll just get them tomorrow.
