It's about time. I didn't go boarding at all last year.

Me neither and I only went once the year before to bear.....If the weather turns out to be accurate, I may need to make a Tahoe trip this winter. Its been almost 10 years since I boarded up there.

I used to board / ski in Mammoth every weekend. Now that we have 4 kids (3 of which go to ski school), I just can't afford it. Maybe I can get up on a solo run this year, been 2 years since I last touched snow.

I hope it dumps an baldy. Great trails if you aren't afraid to hike a little

That would be bad ass. I live right down from Baldy on 21st and Mountain....I have never actually been boarding on Baldy but I hear it has some of the best boarding on POW days.

Yup, I've had some of the most fun days at baldy. Buddy has a cabin in mammoth at the bottom of chair 23 so that's saying something [emoji4]. I'm further down on mountain and the 60

Nice! I have only been to Mammoth a handful of times.....I actually really like riding June Mountain when there is snow....
That place is so nice and wide open you can practically be on a trail all by yourself....

Baldy is alright. It doesnt get as packed at mt. High and bear. At baldy they aren't a huge terrain feature mountain. The few times i went a few years ago (before catching an edge and cracking my tailbone) baldy had a few terrain features, but nothing like high or bear.

For as long as I've been snowboarding, I have always said Baldy has the best riding in So Cal ... but ONLY when there is snow. I have had the most epic sessions at Baldy. Parking lot runs are the shit.

Now that we have a cabin in Big Bear, I see us riding up there quite a bit more.

I've never had fun baldy. Some do say it's the best place to go after a dump but the same people also say you have a better chance at winning the lottery than having a perfect day there ie no 30mph winds ice ect ect. If you're into checking out new places on the cheap, look into the mountain collective pass. I bought it last year and it was well worth it.

I highly doubt that. Chair 23 loads on St Anton and offloads between cornice and wipeout. ;)

It's bottom of eagle I want to say... 23 stands out in my mind but maybe 18? I can text and ask him. I know at the end of the day we can get straight to the parking garage and into the condos. I haven't been in two season and I believe I was drinking pretty heavy last time [emoji15]

Baldy is more for the tree runs for me. My high is cool the first hour it opens then it's packed. But the playground is fun and u don't need a lift

Snow skiing / boarding has become a rich mans sport. We all use to water ski in the summer and snow ski in the winter. Snow skiing has simply priced itself out of the market for me and my family so I know exactly what your talking about...

If you guys ever get up to Nelson BC..check out Baldface Lodge. They do all the redbull supernatural events there and was lucky enough to make a trip a few years back. EPIC

I work in the industry on and off the snow and you are right, things are a bit out of control when it comes to daily lift tickets and such. Alot of areas are getting in to the mountain collective passes and that helps but it is still expensive. The best deals are at smaller type ski areas, not the big ones where alot of people go to just be seen at the bar in their brand new ski get ups one time a year.

It is expensive to make snow and push it around, so it is what it is sometimes.

As far as gear is concerned, there is definatly affordable equipment out there, new and used. I put alot of families in to season rentals also, and most are quite happy to have great equipment with minimal cost, especially because the kids grow. It is a commitment, but one your kids will thank you forever for.

I'll be keeping an eye on how things shape up this season in the Rockies, but for now i plan to get out to Stowe, Sugarloaf, Killington, Jay Peak and Whiteface.

I hope it's another Nino year! That 97 season was out of control. I will find a way to shoot mountain sports if we get a season like that

So many epic Baldy days that I still revisit in my mind....I was paid this weekend to guide Scot Schmidt, Kevin Andrews, the Deloria bros, Jim Zellars, along with Rob Story and company for Powders photo shoot. Epic weekend! Fucked part was I got bumped out of the helicopter for camera equipment on Sunday.
I've been waiting for another epic day as I will fly down from Idaho to ski Epic El Nino Baldy!!

Scattered rain showers before 11pm, then scattered rain and snow showers. Widespread haze. Areas of smoke before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. Windy, with a southwest wind 30 to 35 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

It bodes well for the winter for sure!

I remember that year really well. It was before I got into boarding and used to Live in San Pedro. The waves from those storms would break out about half a mile or so from shore and surfers would ride them all the way in. It was bad ass
