My youngest son is looking to get into the pipe fitters union (math test at the end of this month) or ironworker union. He went to the hall for the latter and was given a list of companies to call that’ll sponsor (many on the list are now defunct or non-union).

He doesn’t have any experience, but has welding certs.

Advice, opinions, thoughts, connections?

Northern California... Browns Valley Irrigation District is looking for a "retired" Commercial Class A driver to haul large diameter pipe from our storage yard to jobsite. Includes operating forklift and/or wheel loader with forks. Pipe would be hauled on a 40' gooseneck trailer behind an F350, employment would be considered a Temporary Seasonal hire and is very flexible on work schedule. This project is expected to take up to 5 years to complete and be perfect for someone looking to supplement income and work a couple of days a week. Location is in Browns Valley, just north of Sacramento. Shoot me an email if you know anyone. [email protected]

i was in the same spot roughly 15 years ago. life took me a different direction. but i still keep all my certs current, especially my LA city structural, but there are others in there as well. if he is looking to get into the unions i have no advice, all the work i did was non union. if he has is LA city structural license for manual and semi auto process he should be able to go just about any welding yard and at least get a weld test or an interview. let me know what area you are in and ill ask my buddies who are still burning rod everyday if they have any advice.

I can give him some contacts in HI...a lot of my family are pipefitters and came up through the union.

Edit...if he can get in..some of my buddies went this route through HCC. Its VERY competitive though..but if he got in he would be set. https://www.navsea.navy.mil/Home/Shipyards/PHNS-IMF/Careers/Apprenticeship/

Malcolm drilling is one a couple of my buddies all said is a good company to work for. one is still there but has no pull, he is just a rod burner. they are out of Irwindale but run jobs all over. another would be Acco. the one that supirised me was Kaiser permanente, one of them is going through the hiring process now. he said the requirements are pretty specific and more tailored towards boilermaker / pipefitter, but if you check the boxes its a forever type of job. also have him check disneyland and knotts, they both have their own crews doing all sorts of stuff at night and behind the scenes.

Not pipe fitters or iron workers. I have been in the fire sprinkler union for 41 years, They should be testing for another apprenticeship class soon. Not much welding but it looks good in the interview portion.

Have had some positive results from Ziprecruiters.com. Have 3 more interviews tomorrow but sometimes that don't mean shit at it is more of a disappointment than anticipated from their resume/phone interview to an actual one on one. How the fuk these people survives from day to day is beyond me...jeez.

Repost from back in march. Early 2024 possibility.
We have a senior tech probably retiring within a year.

***Boss man said we are looking for a new tech at our company and i have exhausted my contacts that i would consider referring. Figured rdp family might be a good place to start!

We are a small business but cover a large landscape of souther california in the Medical service field.

Details- Certified Medical Sales

-Service tech on our pumps and compressor side of the company.
-background in mechanics and electrical are a plus along with ability to look at something and see a solution or way to disassemble and reassemble, most items we touch dont have instructions anymore
- we are home based shop in murrieta
- someone who lives in the immediate nearby towns. Murrieta, temecula, lake elsinore, menifee, hemet. Helps to be close for our 24hr service windows we provide.
- early 20s to 30s looking for a secure long run career
- hardworking and willing to learn and be ready for any call at anytime
- on job training first year then testing for nitc credential, service van and ability to work solo and have a more flexible schedule
- boss is military veteran and just wants hard work and honesty, all tech are around the same age and a fun environment
- mostly conservative employed company around 12 total employees.
- average days are daily overtime from 10hr to 12hr days with many longer days, 1.5x after 8hrs, double after 12hr, saturdays 1.5x 4hour minimum, sunday double time 4hour minimum also.
- most holidays, 2 weeks pto.
- semi annual bonuses
- 50% medical coverage
- 401k profit share kinda deal after i think second year. Fully vested after 5year
-6 figure potential

Maybe for someones son looking for a secure future and isn’t afraid of hot and cold mechanical rooms/roofs. Heavy lifting, Mostly comfortable around electrical control panels, competent with tools and can ready multimeters, do oil changes etc.

Cant think of to many more details but it is a great company with a lot of future security. Basically recession proof career.

I average 40k miles a year so a clean record and safe driver is needed as well.
Our area covers el centro to Santa Barbara, out to Bakersfield, some trips to fresno as well.

Please reach out with questions and can work on an interview and possible ride alongs

We are looking for a Regional Sales Manager to handle our SE territories in North/South Carolina and Georgia. 57 year old company and the leader by far in what we do making us the largest in the world. Must have powersports industry sales (boat, golfcart, sxs, motorcycle, highend boat, etc) background and preferably in the wholesale business to business side of things. Travel 50-75% of time in region with remaining time spent in remote office/home. Pay dependent on your hustle is around 110k to 200k+ a year. If you're making less than that, you probably won't be an employee very long. No weekends and lot's and lot's of autonomy if you're good!

Company car, large expense account amd other perks depending on what you work out with the hiring manager.

Shoot me a message if interested.
Damn, didnt you mean in the SW not SE!

We are hiring field techs again. $30’ish to start and I do some pre interviews.

Go to SCE Careers.
What qualifications you need for field techs? My brother in law is looking for a career as he just got out of college with a sports degree. Not the best choice🤣🤣

Sounds like its gonna be tough to fill the positions. 😂
I did some of the pre interviews last time. The answers were hard to listen too.

How would you prepare for a long drive to a job site?

Answer: I would drink coffee.

Anyone have anything in the dispatch field close to the corona/Norco area? Have a good friend looking for a job. She actually got hired over Christmas break, but then got the flu and was unable to go to work for 2 weeks. Just the worst luck. They let her go on the first day she was able to come back since she was on the 90 day probation period.

So is the right answer use the bathroom? No Taco Bell? Hahaha
It’s far more basic common sense i would imagine. Walk around the vehicle make sure it has fuel, is in safe working condition, and all equipment and loads are secured. Make sure I have the tools and equipment needed for the job so I’m not having to make the long drive back and forth to get equipment that I should have had from the start. It’s not what most employees do but it’s what people with common sense and half a pulse do. 😂

Are they looking for the younger age to train and keep for a career. . Or someone who might want steady work for 5-7 yrs.
Probably sounds like a stupid question

They want you to make it career. They are making progression easy. If they are smart and catch on they could be in my position within 7-10yrs making 120-170k a year. Plus profit sharing and very good 401k

So, this would be for the "Field Planning Technician Trainee"? It says bachelor's degree preferred, MY 23-year-old son has no degree, just some construction, hardware & warehouse experience. Would he have a shot, or will it be flooded with degreed applicants?
