I bought this boat out kinda near Palm Dale for 300 bucks.. To say it was a basket case is an understatement. The boat had been used as a yacht tender for someone.. I hesitate to use the word "yacht" because whom ever had this thing certainly didn't treat it like lifestyles of the rich and famous.

They painted it with some sort've thick saltwater paint... They painted over the non-skid, whole boat pretty much. I'm working on digging up some pics of when it was painted.

The boat had carpet and had been sitting outside for quite awhile underneath a tree.. To sum it up, the whole thing was focked.

They stripped the paint off the boat 1st, and then there was an access hole in the floor. The flotation foam was soaked, and still had water in it.

I had them cut the floor out of it, and remove all flotation foam underneath the floor, and in the bow.

Pics of progress from paint stripping.
The gel was just a little dark blue underneath the shit baby blue the guy painted on.. I'm still baffled as to why he repainted all the white, white.. I dunno.

Even though it probably wasn't necesarry I had them cut out the old floor.. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this one has a "stringer" down the center of the boat. I'd have to ask Barney, but I'm pretty sure my old one didn't have anything down the middle.

Both this mini and my new 12'er are getting rigged "ski race" style, and I plan on running the holy piss out of both of them.. (Catalina trips have been mentioned.. LOL)

That being said with the floor out, they are going to run some more fiberglass down the middle of the boat chine to chine, as well as thicken up some other areas of the bottom a little to make it tougher.

They are also going to build a small flat pad out of fiberglass where the turn fin used to be on the insde of the boat. We are going to do a drop through turn fin (circle boat style) on this 10'er.

Some pics of the progress.

As well because we like to start fresh with zero holes, they are filling every single hole on the boat from bow to stern.. The only thing that stays is the bow eye... I haven't had a chance to look at it up close to make sure it's in good condition or not to see if I should replace it.

Pics of the progress.

You can see in this pic, some damage to the non skid up by the bow. The guy put a "Ski Tow" right here, I'm presuming to lift the little boat up onto his yacht?

either way, when working with a "restore" you gotta work with what you got.. I'm not sure that the non skid could be repaired by anybody to my satisfaction, so I'll be putting a flip up stainless bow light here.

attachment.php

As well, being that we're not doing a "clamp on" installation like the standard 10'ers.. We have no need for the "well" so that is currently being cut out. In other words this will be the 1st "Flat Deck" 10er.. ;) Going to glass in a peace of non skid all the way across so that it matches the bow.

Dave you goin put side tanks in it?

It depends a little on how we decide to rig this one.. If I can lighten up the transom assembly quite a bit, then I would put side tanks in it and a ballast tank in the bow. If I go full tilt on the transom assy with Cav hardware etc.. and it weighs the back of the boat down quite a bit, then we'll go with a tank up under the bow like my old one. :)

If you`re goin rig it right then I guess you`ll put the driver on the left side right, foot throttle and cav. peddle with shifter on the hand rail?

Shifter on the hand rail? LOL What the hell is a hand rail?

I don't want to get too ahead of myself on the rigging as we still have to gel coat the boat, get the trailer built etc.. etc.. That'll take 6 mo's to a year in itself.. (Keep in mind we're building 2, and we got more time then $$$ so this will be at a snails pace)

I'll go ahead and say it though... foot throttle and cav plates will most likely be the way we go. ;)

Any before or during pics?

I'm not sure about "during"

I have one before pic, but I can't find it to save my life.. LOL (That's why I left the 1st post with no pictures)

Jason up at Dana took a bunch, but his camera, and lap top were recently misplaced into the hands of some thieving dipshit, so I'm thinking we might be starting this build from here on forward.. LOL

Looks like a 12' Daytona from Sundown Marine?

Sun Down Marine? Do they still make them? Contact info?

And by "Daytona" you mean the v-bottom daytona right, not the cat like "eliminator?"

Sundown built the Daytona brand. You have seen some Daytona's still around Parker? They built them down off Beach Blvd in HB. One of their boats smacked the bridge under Huntington Harbor at night and killed some passengers? Big news story years ago.

They are long gone... The boats were built fairly well. We worked on a bunch of them.

There is one of these for sale on PCH outside a car wash in HB/seal beach. Same colors and everything.

Picked up the boat from Dana boats recently and took it back to Schiada. :)

Schiada will finish the glass work (filling in the outboard well, and finishing the repairs / gel coat etc..) They will be starting on the trailers pretty soon as well. :)

Pictures from the trip.

Is that my 1991 21 that Howard Haig is driving in the photo of the matching 10 and 21? I know he had two red ones.....

Wow, that's amazing then, I have a similar pic of the boat sitting here on my desk, it's the cover photo of the June 1992 Hot Boat, #627??? .... never knew I have a cover boat...... unlike a boat cover... we were out last night terrorizing our lake up here in Alaska in our blue and white 21RC. People up here look at you like you are speaking a foreign language when you say Schiada.... or twin turbo..... if it's not made of aluminum or doesn't have a jet on it, then you truly have a unique piece up here.

The trailer is mostly built now.. :)

It's being mocked up with this 10'er as mine is still down in Long Beach. I will have more pics as Lee sends them to me. :)

To give you an idea of how low this thing is, the boat next to it is sitting on a dolly and the rubrail is about stomach high if your tall, chest high if your a midget. LOL The chrome wheels measure 12 inches plus tire. Judging by the pics I'd bet the top of the boat right now is around 3' from the ground.

More pics of the traier. :)

boatpoor, the boat on the trailer is a 10'er that Lee built awhile back. It's 100% vacuum bagged, pure vinylester (sp?) etc.. etc..

Lee is entertaining the idea of selling it, Stan is entertaining the idea of trading it.. If it doesn't move they'll build it for themselves as mine are getting built.

When the fenders are on it etc.. It'll look right. ;) They look wider then they are because there's no fender pads, etc.. filling up that area yet.

Besides.. There's no curbs in the keys and that's all these things are gong to be towed around is in the keys to the launch ramp. ;)

I will have them registered though just for the plates. :D

The rub rail on the boat is 28 inches off the ground in these pics.. :D Low and wide.. ;)

So you are not going to use leaf springs, maybe not nessesary in the keys. Otherwise you"ll probably be alittle taller. Dave why don"t you stretch the trailer out past the transom about 20" kind of like the offshore look for protection. I did it on the Daytona and it looks pretty cool.:hmm

Stan and Mike are designing and building the trailers.. The only input I gave them is I wanted an "Old School" trailer with "modern" highlights.

There is all kinds of little things being done to get that old school look.. Floating Fenders (no steps) etc..

Hey RD, :thumbsup
You might need to add some weight to that trailer so you can get the boat on and off. Little trailer with wide tandem tires looks like it might float to me. I love the look of the trailer by the way. I am going to have to build a 10' or 12' when the boys get a little older. They have seen the videos my dad took of me riding around in the one I used to have. And low and behold there is probably just enough room at the river house to stuff a third Schiada in the garage!!:thumbsup

On the spring front of things.. this trailer will have suspension as I come to find out today. They are doing some trick offset / c notch deal to get the suspension up and underneath the trailer to keep it low.

I know it wouldn't quite be the same but you know you could just buy mine and be done with it.

If I had the cash I'd already own it. LOL. These deals I can build on my own time when money allows etc.. Plus you know how it is 1/2 the fun is building them. ;)

Looks great Dave. Just what I wanted when I did mine. Hopefully find one again soon. I saw the frame a while back when I was in Van Nuys. I thought they said 9K for that bare 10. Stan said its bullet proof.

Just out of curiosity, how much do they typically go for used? A buddy of mine has one and it hasn't seen water for years now.
