So this morning I’m sitting out front in our entry way by the fountain having my coffee and this frikn tarantula crawls up the wall next to me. I nearly shit myself as I have some serious spider issues. I tell my wife to get a gun and kill it, and since she has the balls when it comes to spiders and is a nurse she decides to relocate it. We have 1.5 acres and she took the spider out to edge of the property and let it go, easily 100 yards away.

About two hours later the fucker walks right up and gets up on the wall again by the fountain.

What the hell, was the spilling water of the fountain what brought him back? How does a spider find its way back like that? What’s the attraction?

As much as I hate spiders the whole thing was pretty remarkable and it seems like he is going to hang out for awhile.

We our back in Anaheim now and I just checked our security cameras and there he is on the wall again.

Jeez, that isnt even a big one. They eat crickets and other bugs like them. I haven't ever killed one, just let him do his thing. So it is either food or the water bringing him back.

I nearly sheet myself when I saw this one on the patio this summer. Can't say I know their habits but I almost shot it.

They are making a little run down in Parker, neighbor picks up everyone that walks by up by hand. Hasn't swayed my vote to handle one.

We had just moved into our new house and didnt have much put away yet.I had a stack of clothes sitting on the floor on my office.Grabbed a pair of shorts and pulled them on,I felt something in the crotch area and thought it was a dryer sheet stuck in there.I shook my leg a couple times to dislodge it and a freakin tarantula flew out of there.Talk about a grown man screaming like a little girl.Scared the shit out of me.

What will freak you out is how fast they are.

This is so true.

My wife is a spider freak and we have had a few tarantulas as pets. They move freaking slow normally but if they see food or danger they are light speed fast.

I read last night that it’s mating season and if they are out and about during the day it’s typically that they are males looking to get laid.

I hate spiders...but have never really considered tarantulas as normal spiders.

They’re kind of cool.

I dove off the dock about a month ago and was swimming down to the beach. One of our neighbors keeps one of those big pad things in the water all summer and as I swam/floated past there was a tarantula walking on that pad and I shit you not that fucker was as big as a coffee cup. Been going to the river since 1961 and this is only the 3rd one I've seen. I don't know if they can swim but I gave that little bastard a WIDE berth as I made my way to the beach.

This was one of the bigger ones I had at my house in Tucson, he was about the size of a salad plate...

this little bugger walked up on us having drinks on the patio a few weeks back in Parker. Shooed him off across to the other side of the neighbors. Less than an hour later, he was back at our feet again. Tried to shoo him off again and he came running at me quick. Eventually walked away into the dark and under the deck..

We have them here in Simi Valley as well but I have only seen them a dozen or so times. I've also come across a couple scorpions, the last scorpion was 3 years ago at the north end of Tapo Canyon, the first time was 30ish years ago at the south end of Erringer Rd, there are houses there now.

Generally two kinds of tarantulas, arboreal and terrestrial. Mostly terrestrial here in the desert. 99% chance if you see a tarantula roaming out in the open, it's a male looking for a female. Females generally don't roam out in the open. I keep tarantulas at home. I love them almost like my dog. I know it's weird but I do. I find them interesting. Don't care much for snakes, scorpions, etc, just tarantulas. DONT KILL THEM. They eat more bugs and insects than almost any other animal. Your basic black widow is more or less vermin. They will get into small places and bite you if you come into contact with them. keep them outside. Here are some pics of my boy.

Your a bigger man than me. Bizarre how they come back to the same spot after moving him a few hundred yards away.

Years ago on the way to Redinger Lake or Kirchhoff Reservoir from Bass Lake, I was driving up a hill and ahead the road surface looked like it was moving. I drove closer and stopped. There was a huge army of tarantulas crossing the road - hundreds of them. They finally crossed and I drove on - totally bizarre for sure. When I was a kid, we used to catch them with a paper plate and a plastic cup - cool critters.

In our home I always told my wife to wear flip flops when she gets up at night to go use the restroom. In the dark you have no idea what could be around where we live. Well, one night she does her get up dealio and starts to walk across the room to the bathroom WITHOUT shoes and we hear a big crunch. Yep.....she stepped squarely on a big tarantula and squished it dead. Surprisingly she continued on the the bathroom.....lol

We see em all the time up here on our property. I don't mess with them but if they were in the house I am going to take them out of the house. We get some interesting critters on sticky pads including an occasional bird in the garage.

You kind of learn what is good-bad and what to destroy and what to let go. 2Driver has given me good advice along the way when we first moved in here and he was right.

No need to kill everything as some actually are good around the property for sure.

First, are you sure it's the same one, rather than a brother or sister?

Secondly, it looks to me like it might be a huntsman or wolf spider. We have them both in this area, I photograph them when I find them and let them go. Even had one on my waverunner once after I launched it,, that was comedy for a minute!

I notice your dog looking on in one picture what does he think of your tarantula? And have you ever seen a mass migration?

That crazy mutt loves the Tarantula. The tarantula's name is Special. We all sit on sofa and watch TV. Pepper, my mutt, is just jealous he's not in my lap. Occasionally, a tarantula cousin, the scorpion, will find it's way in the house and Pepper will not be happy with the scorpion.

It’s all fun and games till it sucks your insides out! I refer to my previous NOPE comment.
